Loons

Red-throated Loon migratory movements data collected by the Alaska Science Center. Every circle represents a loon. The size of the circles and distance between them show us how similarly they fly. This graph includes the distances and number of days flown.

We can see there are two distinct groups. We wonder if that’s because they flew from/to different places. Most of them seem to fly at the same speed. Which makes sense since they fly together, helping eachother, and drawing a V as in victory in the sky.

We chose maple hardwood because these are birds that normally live in beautiful lakes surrounded by woods that change with the seasons. Maple trees are one of our favorite trees during autumn.
